Key Highlights of the Dining Experience
Exploring the offerings at Sushi By Bosso reveals several distinct characteristics that contribute to its growing reputation:
The Dual Focus on Excellence: The menu successfully navigates two distinct, yet equally demanding, culinary paths. Patrons can indulge in traditional Edomae-style sushi preparations, where the focus is entirely on the quality and cut of the fish, or they can immerse themselves in the rich, umami-laden depths of authentic ramen. This versatility ensures broad appeal without sacrificing specialization in either area.
Commitment to Ingredient Integrity: A cornerstone of any great Japanese restaurant is the quality of its raw materials. Sushi By Bosso places paramount importance on sourcing the freshest seafood available, ensuring that every piece of nigiri or sashimi offers a clean, vibrant taste profile. Similarly, the ramen broths are developed through slow, careful simmering processes, maximizing natural flavors and complexity.
Atmosphere and Location Synergy: Situated on Newbury Street, the restaurant benefits from a prime location that enhances the overall dining experience. The interior design thoughtfully complements the menu, offering a sophisticated yet comfortable setting that encourages lingering and appreciation of the culinary artistry presented. It serves as an urban oasis for those seeking authentic flavors amidst the city's energy.
Artful Presentation: Beyond taste, the visual appeal of the dishes is a significant draw. Both the sushi platters and the ramen bowls are presented with an aesthetic sensibility that honors Japanese culinary traditions, where plating is considered an integral part of the dining ritual. Every dish is crafted to be a feast for the eyes as well as the palate.
These elements combine to create a dining narrative that is both familiar in its roots and exciting in its execution. The team at 163 Newbury Street understands that true culinary success lies in the details—the temperature of the rice, the balance of the broth seasoning, and the attentiveness of the service.
A Destination for Culinary Exploration
Sushi By Bosso Ramen Tavern is more than just a stopover; it is a destination that enriches the gastronomic tapestry of Boston. For those seeking an authentic taste of Japan, executed with modern precision and served in an elegant setting, this establishment on Newbury Street offers a compelling proposition. Highly recommended sushi restaurant!
The atmosphere is great and the service is excellent. I especially recommend coming on Sundays because they offer a buffet, but make sure to book in advance. The salmon here is incredibly fresh, fatty, and absolutely delicious. If you’re a sushi lover, this place is definitely worth a visit! 😊😊

Cute restaurant for a date night. My friend and I halved two seasonal nigiris (Tokyo and bosso on the images attached below) and they were pretty solid. Wasn’t really a fan that some nigiris had wasabi inside it, otherwise was a fan. More

My friend told me I needed to eat here and I'm so glad I listened. Everything was amazing. Take at least 4 people that don't mind sharing and just go nuts ordering things. I suggest the wagyu skewers and yellow tail collar. Highly recommend. More

One of the greatest Japanese sushi restaurants I have visited for sure. Sushi was fresh and very authentic just as what you would expect in Japan. Given the Boston location I feel it better guarantees the quality of the freshness. … More

This place is so amazing! I’ve been in Boston for 10 years now and this instantly shot to one of my top favorite restaurants. The creamy uni udon was insanely delicious!! Creamy but not heavy, perfectly umami broth and chewy noodles! Also the potato salad — I was so surprised at how delicious it was! Perfect mix of sweet and salty and soft and crunchy! The 13 piece nigiri set was beautiful and high quality too :) We love all the by bosso restaurants — try the ramen place in Harvard Sq if you haven’t yet!

Marginally better quality ingredients than average boston sushi but at quadruple the price. You're really paying for newbury rent. I got the "omakase" set which really ought to be the best they have to offer. The rice gets a pass, it was over seasoned which is better than it being under seasoned. Most of the fish was satisfactory. The egg tasted like water. The shrimp was mis cut, the body towards the tail should not be split. I'm pretty disappointed.

This unassuming garden level restaurant surprised me in the best way. Our waiter Tyler was well informed and genuinely wanted us to have the best experience. He was patient with our group of five and explained everything with knowledge and enthusiasm. Everything we ate was delicious! More
